Bemidji Public Library issued the following announcement on March 3.
Two weeks away! Beltrami County Historical Society and Bemidji Public Library are honored to present the exhibit and program series Niimi’idiwag (They Dance). The exhibit and programs explore the history of Anishinaabe powwow, the significance of powwow music, regalia, dance, and craft, and the impact of historic and current events on the powwow.
Red Lake Nation member Daniel Kingbird and his Eagle Clan drum group will perform a ceremony to open our powwow exhibit, with special guest MN State Associate Supreme Court Justice Ann McKeig. Following the ceremony, Mr. Kingbird will provide an explanation of ceremony elements and meaning. The ceremony and program will be recorded in the event of attendance limitations due to COVID.
