Starting in July, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin road repair on a stretch of Highway 53 that leads from International Falls to the Canadian border.
The well-traveled road is in need of infrastructure repairs. The completed project will result in a smoother pavement surface, an improved drainage and storm sewer system, ADA-compliant pedestrian accessibility, a multi-use trail, new signal systems, LED lighting systems and other streetscape improvements.
The project area will include Highway 53 from Crescent Drive to Fourth Street and Highway 11 from the east junction of Highway 71 to the east junction of Highway 53 in International Falls.
Phase 1 construction will be done from July through October 2020 and Phase 2 construction will be done from May through October 2021.
Road work is considered an essential service during this time and the Minnesota Department of Transportation is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its employees, contractors and all Minnesotans.
