Rep. Krista Knudsen, a Republican from Lake Shore, has responded to a recent decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court regarding participation in powerlifting competitions. In her statement, Knudsen expressed concern about the implications of the ruling for women’s sports in the state.
“This ruling is deeply disappointing and represents another step backward for women’s sports in Minnesota. Female athletes deserve fair competition and equal opportunities to succeed, and this decision undermines both. Allowing biological males to compete against women erases decades of progress and discourages young women who have worked hard to excel in their sport.
I have always been committed to standing up for our female athletes and protecting the integrity of girls’ sports. This is about fairness, safety, and ensuring that every girl has a chance to compete and succeed on a level playing field.”
Knudsen noted that two legislative proposals, House File 12 and House File 1233, were intended to address concerns related to fairness in girls’ sports. She stated that both bills were blocked by House Democrats but remain available for consideration when the House reconvenes on February 17, 2026.
