Join us for a mix of great music and talent at Headwaters Open Mic and CoffeeHouse at 7 p.m. on May 6. Held in downtown Bemidji, this monthly community gathering offers a friendly open mic opportunity and welcoming environment for folks to listen and perform. Lisa Dixon is a local songwriter and musician originally from Warroad. She fell in love with music at a young age, taking piano and flute lessons before picking up a guitar as a young teen. She's played at many coffee shops, pubs and festivals around Minnesota over the years while getting her degree in Journalism in Duluth, working at a fishing resort at the Northwest Angle, and teaching music at a studio in Rochester before finally settling down with her family here in Bemidji. Her musical interests vary greatly, as she draws influences from the classic folk and soft rock of her parents' vinyl collection all the way to the modern pop and rock music of today. She believes that at the heart of all music there is simply a story, and Lisa is always looking for ways to find the beauty in meaning behind each song. The performance will feature a collection of her original tunes.
Held on the first Friday of most months, the Headwaters Open Mic offers a welcoming and supportive community for musicians and spoken-word performers. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10- to 15-minute set. Coffee and treats are available for purchase courtesy of Aurora Waasakone. Headwaters Open Mic and CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event. You can contact John Henningsgaard at (218) 444-9845 for more information.
