Local community programs will be receiving $28,900 from the Operation Round Up Trust Board, which approved the funds at a quarterly meeting.
“We’ve been worried because the donation jars are way down this year because [COVID-19] is affecting so many families with unemployment in our area,” Pam Issendorf, volunteer treasurer for TWC Caring Program, told the Pilot Independent. “This helps us stop and take a breath right now, so I thank you so much for the wonderful help.”
The board considered 19 applicants and gave grants to 17 of the projects and programs.
Of grant recipients, TWC Caring Program in Wright, Minnesota, received $3,000 to help supply Christmas presents to children from low-income families. In 2019, this program gave gifts to 75 children and also helped one elderly couple pay a hearing bill.
The number of requests for Christmas gifts is expected to be higher this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The TWC program accepts donations and collects funds through its Operation Round Up program. One hundred percent of the funds gathered through this program are given to charitable organizations.
