City of Caledonia issued the following announcement on April 24.
The Houston County Board of Commissioners, in Resolution 20-23, authorized the Auditor/Treasurer to abate late payment penalties for payment of 1st half 2020 property tax received after the May 15, 2020 deadline, but before July 15, 2020 (except for escrow and ACH payments).
By state statute, the Board cannot change the property tax payment due date (May 15th). But, they can reduce the penalty for late payment for this period, which gets to the same result.
Property owners seeking any other abatement or reduction may do so through the regular procedures provided for in MS Statute 375.192.
