The next generation of social workers and change-makers from the Bemidji State Department of Social Work presented their capstone research posters on Dec. 6 in Hobson Memorial Union’s Crying Wolf Room.

Eight students presented research, which covered topics including:

• reintegration and recidivism after incarceration
• determinants of child abuse and neglect
• student athletes and mental health
• foster care and adoption
• causes of suicide among LGBTQIA+ youth
• addiction-related crime

“The students have been diligently working on their research all semester,” Emily Paine, assistant professor of social work, said. “They have had great discussions for not only what the concerns are for their topics, but how to think about creating change within a community.”
