Sen. Paul Utke (R-MN) will chair the Minnesota Senate’s new Human Services Licensing Committee, according to a Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus press release.
The committee's focus will be on streamlining the process for obtaining critical services within the state. Additionally, the committee will be working on improving the process between the Department of Human Services and local units of government. According to committee members, the committee will help ensure that these departments can concentrate on presenting their key services and less time on politics.
“There are millions of Minnesotans who depend on government for a wide range of services, and we have to make sure those services are functioning effectively and efficiently,” Utke said in a press release. “Whether that means relaxing some regulatory burdens when necessary or tightening things up when the circumstances warrant, the end goal is the same: To continue successfully providing key services while getting bureaucracy out of the way as much as possible.”
The priority for the assembly will be evaluating the budget amid the negative impact COVID-19 has on the state economy.
