Rep. Steve Green (R-Fosston) is standing by his efforts to end Gov. Tim Walz’s executive powers that have been in place since mid-March, according to the Minnesota House of Representatives website.
While the House Democrats have blocked the efforts five times now, Green said the time to pull the powers is overdue.
“This is a total abuse of power on behalf of the governor and a complete failure by House Democrats who refuse to get off their hands and represent their constituents,” Green said, according to the Minnesota House of Representatives website. “The House majority’s willingness to take a back seat and let the governor’s authoritarian rule continue is downright shameful.”
He added that there are no guidelines for the governor’s emergency powers, and said because of the majority House’s votes, it appears that they are OK with the state staying shut down for an indefinite amount of time.
He then called out House Democrats and said, “If you are a House Democrat, I don’t know how you can look your constituents in the eye and refuse to represent them, with no end in sight to this abdication of duty. It is an insult to Minnesotans and the oath of office we took as legislators,” according to the state’s House website.
