State Sen. Mark Koran (R-North Branch) renewed a bill that allows for charitable gaming, giving it a chance to make it to Gov. Tim Walz's desk in this year's legislative session, according to a Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus release.
“I am willing to keep coming back to this subject as many times as it takes to support our veterans and get this right," Koran said in the release. "Keeping charitable gambling up and running is vital. The best thing the governor could do to support these organizations, and the veterans they help, is getting the state safely and fully opened up. As that measure appears to be slow coming, we must be willing to make adjustments."
The bill initially passed during the regular session, but the House of Representatives couldn't send it to the governor for signing, the release states.
The bill allows for American Legions and veteran charitable gambling operations and other organizations that have suffered due to the current economic situation to have some relief. The bill allows these types of organizations to continue to maintain their facilities and continue performing charitable work.
