Helping individuals stay organized has taken on a new format for We Love Messes owner Tammy Schotzko amid COVID-19.

“I have been doing virtual organizing sessions using things like Zoom and Facebook Messenger and Skype,” Schotzko told Bemidji Pioneer. “So I can see the space, but I don’t necessarily have to be there or touch anything.”

While Schotzko wishes she could interact with clients in person, she has become more comfortable conducting her services through technological means.

“I’m trying to stay out there and help my clients in whatever way I can,” she said. “I’m going live on Facebook three times a week, I’m answering phone calls and getting things booked when I can.”

Whether physically or virtually, Schotzko said she focuses on helping clients create a brighter and decluttered space that will personally work for them.

“There’s no right way or one way to go about things,” she said. “Everyone is different and uses their space differently, so I want to support people in the way they need.”

Schotzko calls its functional organizing.

“It’s not about getting caught up in making it look like a Pinterest post, it’s about making it work for people in everyday life,” she said.

Organizing is just one half of Schotzko’s We Love Mess business. The other is residential cleaning which her business team is currently offering for unoccupied homes such as in the case of a newly purchased home or rental turnovers. The company uses eco-friendly cleaners and microfiber cleaning cleaning cloths.

Schotzko has been taking cleaning classes that incorporate safety measures for the prevention of the coronavirus.

“I’m trying to stay abreast of what the best practices are in the field and what we are looking at when we go back to work full time – what we need to be doing and be cognizant of,” she said.
