Gov. Tim Walz has extended the State of Minnesota's stay-at-home order through May 4 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he is allowing more businesses to reopen, according to Rep. John Poston.
Nurseries, landscaping and agricultural equipment repair businesses are back in business so long as they can maintain social distancing guidelines.
Poston said he understands businesses have been struggling since the pandemic began and he is working to assist business owners in the state.
"Please know that legislators have been pushing the administration on a daily basis asking for exemptions, flexibility and common sense," Poston said.
He also said he supported new legislation that allows essential workers in the medical field, first responders and others to receive worker's compensation if they contract COVID-19.
"I am so proud of our communities’ nurses, doctors, law enforcement officers, paramedics and others who are so bravely going to work every day to care for us," Poston said. "We owe you a debt of gratitude."
Farmers can now apply for financial assistance from the Minnesota Disaster Recovery Loan Program if they've suffered losses due to COVID-19, Poston said.
"I encourage all of our local farmers to get in touch with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to determine eligibility," Poston said.
