Waste haulers are struggling with what to do in Crow Wing County when it comes to trash and recycling, as recycling costs are increasing and municipalities are losing funding.
Tyler Gardner, Pequot Lakes Sanitation owner, and Taren Saccoman, CFO of Pequot Lakes Sanitation, are encouraging others to contact Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, for help with Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment (SCORE) funding and the statute involved with it, the Brainerd Dispatch reported.
Saccoman told the news agency that the rules need to be updated because they were made when recycling didn't cost waste haulers more than what they were charging.
“If, in a perfect world, everyone who recycled, recycled properly, it would definitely be worth it,” Gardner said.
Saccoman said as it currently stands, recycling is not worthwhile for waste haulers.
