Minnesota Representative Pete Stauber announced that the House passage of the Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act will provide essential funding for schools, roads, and public services across Northern Minnesota.

“Big win for Northern Minnesota,” said Peter Allen Stauber, U.S. Representative of Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District (R). “The Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act passed the House last night. This reauthorization ensures millions in critical funding for MN-08 schools, roads, and services in many Northern Minnesota counties.”

The Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program, established in 2000, aims to compensate counties affected by reduced revenue from national forest lands. The reauthorization for 2025 renews support for critical services in rural and forest-dependent communities across the United States.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the SRS program distributed over $238 million to 41 states in fiscal year 2024. This funding helps maintain local infrastructure, education, and emergency services in counties with limited tax bases.

Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, represented by Stauber, encompasses over 3 million acres of national forest land. In recent years, SRS payments have provided millions annually to support schools and public safety within this region.

Stauber has served as a Republican representative for Minnesota’s 8th District since 2019. With a background as a Duluth police officer and county commissioner, he focuses on economic growth, natural resources, and public safety in Northern Minnesota.

Minnesota is located in the Upper Midwest and is recognized for its strong manufacturing base, natural resources, and forested areas. The state depends on federal partnerships like the SRS program to sustain rural infrastructure and educational services.
